Service Description
EMDR Therapy for Trauma, Anxiety, Depression & Compulsive Behaviours Online EMDR across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Compulsive behaviour is rarely about discipline. Anxiety is rarely “just stress.” Depression is rarely weakness. More often, they are intelligent adaptations of a nervous system shaped by experiences that were never fully processed. Alcohol, drugs, bingeing, restricting, pornography, compulsive sexual behaviour, self-harm, overwork — these are not random habits. They are regulation strategies. So too are panic, shutdown, emotional numbing, persistent sadness, or waves of grief that feel disproportionate to the present. When intensity, avoidance, or repetition once brought relief, the system learned. And it continues to repeat what worked — even when it now limits your life. EMDR works at the level where these patterns were formed. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro, PhD. It helps the brain metabolise experiences that were never fully integrated. When trauma, attachment rupture, humiliation, fear, or loss remain unprocessed, the body responds as if the past is still occurring. The result may be anxiety, depression, emotional flooding, shutdown, craving, shame, or unresolved grief that does not soften. EMDR allows the nervous system to update. Memories lose their charge. Beliefs shift. The body settles. Online EMDR is not diluted therapy. The processing mechanisms are the same as in-person work. We simply meet securely via specialist EMDR software. In my clinical experience across trauma and addiction settings in the United States, Asia, and Ireland, symptoms such as anxiety, depression, compulsivity, and chronic grief are often rooted in attachment rupture, developmental trauma, emotional neglect, relational betrayal, perfectionism, identity wounds, and unprocessed loss. When these experiences remain active in memory networks, the nervous system stays dysregulated. The behaviour, the anxiety, or the depressive collapse becomes the regulator. EMDR does not attack the symptom. It addresses the memory networks that maintain the dysregulation. Effective EMDR work can reduce trigger intensity, decrease trauma-driven cravings, reprocess shame-based beliefs (“I’m defective,” “I can’t cope,” “I’m powerless”), lower baseline activation, ease depressive heaviness, soften hypervigilance, support integration of grief, increase choice under stress,
